The chaos behind the name

Some of it really is written in the stars

People ask whether the Goddess of Chaos thing is a bit. It is not, entirely. Hover either constellation and I will show you where the name actually comes from.

Two constellations, and one dwarf planet

Hover a constellation to light it up. Tap instead on a phone.

Gemini

Gemini

The twins. Castor and Pollux are the bright pair at one end, and the figure runs all the way down to their feet. Two of them, side by side, made of the same stuff and facing opposite directions.

It is my sign, and it is also the whole business. Chaos and clarity are not opposites I am asking you to pick between. They are the two halves that have to travel together. The mess is where all the information is. The system is what makes it usable. Take either one away and I have nothing to sell you.

Two names, one constellation. That is the logo as well.

Cetus, and Eris

Cetus, and Eris

The sea monster. One of the largest constellations in the sky and one of the dimmest, a long dark sprawl with barely a bright star in it. You have almost certainly never noticed it.

The terracotta point near its neck is Eris: the Greek goddess of chaos, and a real dwarf planet out past Neptune. She is sitting at right ascension 1h 51m, declination plus 00 degrees 12 minutes, which puts her inside Cetus right now.

There is no constellation named after her. She had to borrow a monster. I find that extremely relatable.

The handwriting in the logo

The wordmark is set in a script called Pantai Bali. I went looking for that one specifically and bought it, because nothing else had the right hand to it.

Every other word on this site is Tenor Sans: even, structured, a little severe. The logo is the one place the handwriting shows. Same two halves as the twins. The systems are tidy. The person building them is not a robot.

And the name itself

Chaos to Clarity is not a promise that your business will go quiet. Plenty of it will stay loud, and the loud part is usually where the useful information is hiding.

It is a direction of travel. You hand me the pile nobody wants to touch, and you get back something you can see the shape of. The mess does not disappear. It stops being the thing running you.

Every dark band on this site is the same slow night sky, and the stars in those two constellations are the same four-pointed ones drifting behind this text. If you have ever sat up at midnight staring at a stack of tools that will not talk to each other, you have already seen it.

Right, back to the actual work

That is the brand explained. If you would rather talk about your own pile of tools, I am in West Michigan and the first call is free.
